Habitat for Humanity Montgomery County (HFHMC) is proud to announce the four honorees for their 25th Anniversary Gala, set for May 10, 2014 at The Woodlands Waterway Marriott Hotel & Convention Center. The honorees include Woodforest National Bank (Corporate Honoree), Bill and Judy Schilling (Community Honoree), The Woodlands United Methodist Church (Faith-Based Honoree), and Anadarko Petroleum Corporation (Humanitarian Honoree).
“Our four honorees exemplify the outstanding servant leaders that make Habitat’s mission a reality in Montgomery County,” said Suzanne Pagel, Gala Co-Chair. “Through house and other financial sponsorships, volunteer participation and executive involvement, they have all stepped up to provide a helping hand to build decent, affordable homes for local hard-working families.”
The Woodforest Charitable Foundation had faith in Habitat’s plan to build the Cedar Creek neighborhood, making a significant donation towards this all Habitat neighborhood in Conroe. Through Woodforest National Bank, they financed the start-up of the affiliate’s ReStore, Habitat’s home improvement store, which at the time was a new and untried concept. The bank sponsored its first house in 2013, supplying all the volunteer labor to build it. Jay Dreibelbis, President and COO, served as Co-Host for the 2013 Executive Build. Patricia Brown, Senior Vice President, serves on the HFHMC Board of Directors.
The late Bill Schilling served two terms on the Habitat Board of Directors, and he and his wife, Judy, were among the first Dreambuilder donors. After Bill’s death in 2010, Judy continued their financial commitment as well as the family’s tradition of service. She was an active participant on the inaugural Gala Committee and continues to serve on that committee and the Architectural Review Committee for Cedar Creek.
The Woodlands United Methodist Church has partnered in the construction of eight Habitat houses. Through these home building partnerships, the church has worked with more than 10 other area churches to advance Habitat’s mission. Since 2003, the church has been a faithful Habitat partner. Members of the church serve on the Board of Directors and committees.
Anadarko Petroleum Corporation has built and fully sponsored HFHMC houses since 2001, providing employee volunteers for construction of those homes. Anadarko also made a donation for the initial infrastructure of the Cedar Creek neighborhood. Over the years, Anadarko’s employees have performed over 20,000 volunteer hours, and three Anadarko employees have served on the HFHMC Board of Directors. Larry Abston, Vice President of Corporate Audit, has co-hosted four Executive Builds and serves as President of the Board.
In addition to recognizing the four Honorees, the Gala program will include cocktails, dinner, dancing, and fabulous silent, bid board and live auctions. The mistress of ceremonies for the evening will be Lisa Malosky, sports producer and former sports broadcaster for NBC and Fox Sports.
Proceeds from the Gala will help support Habitat’s mission in Montgomery County and vision for a world where everyone has a decent place to live.
